Over the past few weeks, the hardworking public service unit of Duval County Public School employees represented by AFSCME voted by mail for the recertification of their union. This week, when the votes were counted, the results show the workers voted unanimously in favor of retaining their union.
AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:
“Another recertification election and another victory for public service workers. From every corner of the state that workers have had the chance to vote on their union they have voted AFSCME yes. It is only when anti-union politicians create procedural trick and traps that they can be silenced.”
AFSCME Local 2941 President Elton Brown, a custodian with Duval County Schools added:
“This is about respect. Our contract allowed us to focus on students’ nutrition and the schools cleanliness, which should be our focus instead of union-busting distractions.”
