The AFSCME Florida family grew yesterday after a unit of the medical staff with the Osceola County Corrections Department vote unanimously, seven to zero, in favor of securing their union voice and contract with AFSCME.
AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement on the vote by the PERC-designated non-professional unit:
“As dedicated public service workers, AFSCME Florida’s newest members know firsthand how important their work in keeping central Florida safe. They are on the front lines, serving alongside coworkers who have enjoyed greater protections and a greater voice in their future. Yesterday, they said that they too want a seat at the table and a voice in the issues that impact them.
“We are honored that they chose AFSCME to form their union with and are excited to start the process of working with them on bargaining a contract. They stood together for their rights and our whole union will now stand with them as they work to secure improvements in safety and staffing levels, better benefits and appropriate compensation.”
