Today, the members of one of the newest AFSCME locals, Miami Gardens, voted 90% in favor of recertifying their union.
AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:
“There is something about listening to the men and women who make our country happen that anti-worker politicians just don’t get. Even when a city and their workers come together to fairly recognize their collective bargaining rights, they still have to jump through unnecessary hoops to prove the thing they said they want is what they actually want. The workers of Miami Gardens want an AFSCME union contract, the city wants their workers’ voice respected and this vote shows the union-busters that their tricks and traps are a waste of the taxpayers’ money with these recertification elections.”
