Anti-worker SB 256 passed the House of Representatives today. AFSCME Florida Council 79 President and International VP Vicki Hall said:
“As dedicated public workers we draw inspiration from those of our members who took the time to stand up for workers’ rights against this bad legislation and testify about the value of our work. Sanitation workers, healthcare workers, school bus drivers, custodians and foodservice workers and many skilled professionals wrote and called elected representatives, made trips to Tallahassee and participated in countless shows of support for workers rights and the value of a union contract. We will continue to demonstrate the value and power of our solidarity through our union.
"We call on Governor Ron DeSantis to reject this bad legislation and respect the freedom and liberties that define America.
“We will continue our efforts to make sure every public worker throughout the state of Florida—at every level of public service—will have the opportunity to participate in the unalienable rights which define America in our Declaration of Independence and are affirmed in our state Constitution. Make no mistake, today is not the end, it is the start of the next chapter in our fight for justice, equality and freedom at work. Americans still believe in the values that birthed this country so we will not let them die here in Florida.”
