Dedicated WFSE members at the Washington Department of Children, Youth and Families show up for kids and families during some of the hardest times in their lives.

I visited the avalanche crew keeping Stevens Pass safe for drivers. I did a ride along with some of our Department of Corrections members in Mt. Vernon. I drove the Green Machine to Walla Walla. I flew to Medical Lake and met the WFSE heroes who pushed residents in their wheelchairs over a mile to safety when the blaze approached Lakeland Village.
Thanks to union action, a Department of Transportation maintenance crew in Eastern Washington is no longer facing a frigid winter without a critical piece of gear: fleece liners for their winter coats.

WFSE made the 2021 Washington State legislative session a success despite the remote status.

4/27: WFSE Members Won Big This Session 

Before the start of the 2021 legislative session, public employees were looking at continued furloughs, layoffs and severe program cuts due to a multi-billion dollar budget shortfall.

The 2021 Legislative Session is in full swing. Decisions about our wages, work conditions, and the services we provide will be made over the next several months.

The WFSE Executive Committee released the following statement regarding today's events:

Violent insurrection provoked by president follows harassment of Washington public employees working to enforce public health orders

Longer response times for stranded drivers, reduced access to life-saving medical treatment and more crime suffered by elderly residents are just a few of the impacts Washington residents may face if legislators choose budget cuts over new revenue.
Armed with a strong contract and the resources of their union, four WFSE members won justice for themselves and their co-workers.
Members from WFSE Local 1060 and more than a dozen other private and public sector unions defeated a union-busting ordinance that was brought to the Whatcom County Council straight from the right-wing Freedom Foundation’s playbook.
Coming out of the Great Recession, Governor Inslee rejected the austerity agenda of his predecessor and set Washington on a course for recovery by investing in—not cutting from—working families. He proved that taking care of people isn’t just possible while you grow the economy, it’s actually how you grow the economy. In my view, this is the lesson of his tenure as governor.

No workforce has more at stake in the decisions made by elected officials. No election in our lifetimes has been more consequential.
